The value of networking is heralded left, right and centre. Do we really know why that is?
Networks create much value for their members: people can easily share knowledge, ideas and skills. Networks can also provide the perfect setting to make powerful connections that can advance projects. There is also value in the ‘feel-good factor’ of being immersed in the buzz of a thriving network of people or organisations you might have not otherwise come across.
Understanding where value comes from is crucial for network builders. Once you know what your members enjoy and benefit from, you can create more opportunities. Equally, if something is not advancing your members’ agenda and it is not attracting new network members, it may be time to drop it off the activities list.
